This coffee was produced by Felipe Luzón at Finca La Josefina in Palanda, Ecuador. Felipe is one of the region's pioneering growers, known for introducing improved and hybrid Typica varieties to the Southern Amazon. From his farm comes this washed Typica Mejorado grown at 1,500 MASL, a variety that has become a benchmark for what Ecuador can produce at its best.

Cherries were harvested at peak ripeness and floated to remove defects before being depulped and wet fermented. The parchment was then washed and dried on raised beds until stable.

In the cup we find lemonade, nectarine and hibiscus. Bright citrus aromatics open things up, followed by ripe stone fruit in the cup with a sweet and tart finish. A subtle floral note lingers, reminiscent of hibiscus tea.

This lot holds a special place for us. Felipe's Mejorado was our introduction to the varietal, and one of the first coffees that made Ecuador's specialty scene impossible to ignore. Several years on, this lot is a reminder of why it left such a strong impression.

All our coffees are sold as whole beans.
